Best Extraction Programs for .ZIP and .RAR Files (PC)

We have found WinRAR to be the most reliable extraction program for .ZIP and .RAR files on the PC. Not only does this program extract .ZIP and .RAR files extremely well, but it can also convert archives that were created on Macintosh computers so that they work on modern PC systems.

Sometimes these Mac archives are reported as "corrupt" when you try to extract them using Windows XP or Vista. They're not corrupted, it's just that Windows can't open them because Microsoft changed the unzip process. However, you can "repair" these Mac-formatted archives in WinRAR by following the tips below.

Repairing a "corrupt" archive in WinRAR:

1.) Download the free version of WinRAR

2.) Install WinRAR on your computer.

3.) Open WinRAR then navigate to the ZIP file, right click on the file then select "Repair Archive"

4.) This will create a new "repaired" archive.

5.) Just extract this new archive and you will find that the errors have been fixed.
